Measure What Matters to You and Your Organization
Ok – we’ve all had a month to track our new 2020 safety metrics – how are you doing? Did you pick the right things to measure?
1. Have a look at your metrics for safety and see if they align (somehow) with the overall corporate performance measures – they should.
2. Add at least one metric that is more qualitative, more reflective in nature…yes, senior management tends to like things that can be counted easily…but having one of these will get them talking about what you’re doing, how you’re getting there and a bit less about comparing numbers from one year to the next.
Remember – a good metric does 2 things – It tells a message about what’s important to you – and it shows people if you’re improving on that thing…treat it accordingly.
